All equine activities provided are governed by the Virginia Equine Activity Liability Act.

ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) helmets and boots are provided free of charge for students to use while deciding if they will continue riding!

There will be a $75 processing fee for any cancellations up to four weeks before camp begins. No refunds 4 weeks prior to camp date if spot cannot be filled. Funds can potentially be transferred to lessons.

Scheduling requires two confirmations. When you submit your available dates and confirm your understanding of this policy, those dates become committed, and you are financially responsible for them once scheduling begins. Lessons may be assigned anytime between 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM. Before each month begins, you will receive your assigned lesson times for those dates and must confirm them. A $40 cancellation fee applies to any cancellation after scheduling has begun, and the full lesson fee is due for cancellations made within 48 hours or for no-shows. These policies ensure proper horse care and allow our program to run reliably for all riders.

If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, you will first be given the option of a private lesson at another time. If this is not desired, then a refund will be sent by check, not PayPal. For those who insist on a PayPal refund, there will be a $30 service fee, regardless of how or why the class was canceled.

When you register and pay for a class, the system will create an account for you and save your information for the next time you register.

We require a signed Release Form.

Horse Riding Lessons

We offer private and semi-private riding lessons for all ages on super horses and ponies by a certified instructor. Fees range from $60 – $80.

Comparison Shopping? Parents, when shopping for lessons, please note that Stonelea’s prices reflect the individual attention your child will probably require when coming for their first lessons. After all – every child comes in totally in love with horses but then sometimes hesitate when they see how big they are! We have wonderful working students ready to guide your child through the grooming and tacking up of their mount, proper leading, final tack check before mounting and starting your child out with the lesson they will be joining, explaining the basics one-on-one until Ms. Lucia takes him/her for the beginning trot work. Your child will be assisted in this way until he/she is ready to join the lesson in progress. In other words, your child will receive a private lesson within the lesson until ready to go out on his/her own! Your child will build confidence while learning many riding skills and horsemanship in a safe and knowledgeable environment. Your child will be practicing that day’s skills the entire time, not sitting and waiting for their 1 minute turn around the ring if they were in a typical group lesson. Progression is much faster at Stonelea, where one of our lessons equals up to 5 group lessons at another barn! Now, do the math! Your child will learn true horsemanship, not just putting time in –sitting in the saddle.

Visit Middleburg!

Live more than 20 minutes away? Do you want something to do while your child is in camp? Visit our quaint village of Middleburg – where we do all our shopping without the traffic congestion! It’s just 12 miles away, passing beautiful country and going through the quaint village of Aldie on Route 50 west. Middleburg boasts a library–with an attached field and playground and a community center right next door with a pool and playground. It’s so peaceful to stroll through town. If you’re hungry, stop at the Upper Crust Bakery, which faces the side of the Safeway parking lot. There you will find homemade sandwiches, soups, cookies, and pies; plus ice cream! There are other restaurants or eateries, some with outside seating similar to the Bakery. For a list of all businesses: www.visitmiddleburgva.com. There is metered street parking (quarters) but also a metered lot if you take a left one block after the light. It’s directly behind the church. You will have fun!

An equine activity sponsor, an equine professional, or any other person, which shall include a corporation, partnership, or limited liability company, shall not be liable for an injury to or death of a participant resulting from the intrinsic dangers of equine activities and, except as provided in Section 3.1-796.133, no participant nor any participant’s parent, guardian or representative shall have or make any claim against or recovery from any equine activity sponsor, equine professional, or any other person for injury, loss, damage, or death of the participant resulting from any of the intrinsic dangers of equine activities.
