Horse Riding Lessons

New state-of-the art indoor arena! We never have to worry about rain or wind or terribly cold temperatures! (see video in sidebar)

We offer private and semi-private riding lessons for all ages on super horses and ponies by a certified instructor. Fees range from $60 - $75.
Please call or email to sign up.

Comparison Shopping? Parents, when shopping for lessons, please note that Stonelea's prices reflect the individual attention your child will probably require when coming for their first lessons. After all – every child comes in totally in love with horses but then sometimes hesitate when they see how big they are! We have wonderful working students ready to guide your child through the grooming and tacking up of their mount, proper leading, final tack check before mounting and starting your child out with the lesson they will be joining, explaining the basics one-on-one until Ms. Lucia takes him/her for the beginning trot work. Your child will be assisted in this way until he/she is ready to join the lesson in progress. In other words, your child will receive a private lesson within the lesson until ready to go out on his/her own! Your child will build confidence while learning many riding skills and horsemanship in a safe and knowledgeable environment. Your child will be practicing that day's skills the entire time, not sitting and waiting for their 1 minute turn around the ring if they were in a typical group lesson. Progression is much faster at Stonelea, where one of our lessons equals up to 5 group lessons at another barn! Now, do the math! Your child will learn true horsemanship, not just putting time in --sitting in the saddle.

Summer Camp 2018    Ages 5 and up
For those horse-crazy kids who really want to try riding a horse, but the family budget doesn’t allow for the weekly lesson commitment! Time will be spent learning how horses think, why they react to things the way they do, safety in handling, grooming and riding, proper riding position and control while mounted (through games), caring and keeping of horses.
If camp time listed ends after 12:00, please send lunch. The additional time will be spent helping with horse care, playing horse games and doing arts and crafts related to horses.
Do you have a boy? Well, parents, it's a fact that there are more girls in this sport than boys – in the lower levels. However, the other fact is, the higher up they get, the more the demographic evens out! Let your son try it. They'll have a good time and they will love their time with the horses. Once a boy gets it, they tend to stick with it; give them the chance!
Helmets and boots provided (this is a savings of $80!). Wear long pants and bring a snack.
Shorter camp limited to 10 riders. Longer camp limited to 15 riders.

Homeschool Programs

New this year, Stonelea Farm will be offering special group pricing for all homeschooled children. Lessons must be taken during the school day hours and consist of a group of at least 3 to 4 students. Students will learn some basic barn management skills as well as enjoy a lesson on a quiet, patient school mount. Ms. Lucia will focus on safety while riding and students will practice valuable skills and improve their riding position and communication with their horse as they progress through the different skill levels. Limited riding times remain.
Please call or email Ms. Lucia for more information.

Girl Scout Programs

A visit to the farm will help scouts attain their “Horse Fan” badge or a Brownie “try-it”. We love hosting Girls and Boy Scouts! They will have a blast riding, learning about body parts, breeds and colors and other horse knowledge, and doing some of the barn chores – the cleanup! They will experience everything from the beginning to the end of taking care of and riding horses and be excited to come back sometime in the future!
Please call or email for rates.

Working Student Program

If your child is passionate about horses and would love to spend more time at the barn in addition to their lesson time this may be your answer! Students must be 10 and older, currently in the lesson program, and must be responsible and independent workers. Student must interview for the job and show maturity and responsibility. A written agreement is required between parent, child, and Miss Lucia for this privilege. Working students do any of the barn chores necessary to the smooth running of the barn—grooming, leading horses in, helping prepare horses for a lesson, mucking, haying, feeding, being a camp counselor, etc. Students work 5 hrs. in return for a supervised ride on a horse or pony; plus other bonus benefits from Ms. Lucia when opportunities present themselves!
Please call or email for more information.

Visit Middleburg

Live more than 20 minutes away? Do you want something to do while your child is in camp? Visit our quaint village of Middleburg – where we do all our shopping without the traffic congestion! It's just 12 miles away, passing beautiful country and going through the quaint village of Aldie on Route 50 west. Middleburg boasts a library--with an attached field and playground and a community center right next door with a pool and playground. It's so peaceful to stroll through town. If you're hungry, stop at the Upper Crust Bakery, which faces the side of the Safeway parking lot. There you will find homemade sandwiches, soups, cookies, and pies; plus ice cream! There are other restaurants or eateries, some with outside seating similar to the Bakery. For a list of all businesses: www.visitmiddleburgva.com. There is metered street parking (quarters) but also a metered lot if you take a left one block after the light. It's directly behind the church. You will have fun!
